A Gray man who set fire to his wife in August was recently indicted on an attempted first-degree murder charge, Washington County Sheriff Ed Graybeal said Thursday in a news release.

Todd Darrell Briggs, 35, 302 Boone Road, was arrested Wednesday with the assistance of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office.

On the morning of Aug. 16, deputies went to Franklin Woods Hospital after the woman suffered second- and third-degree burns on her head, arms and torso. She later was flown by helicopter to Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville because of the seriousness of her injuries. For more on this story, visit the Johnson City Press.
