Around 8:48 p.m. Friday, the Rogersville Police Department and Hawkins County Sheriff's Office responded to a complaint of a fight inside the Hale Springs Inn involving Markham, 62, 238 Fire Hall Road, and his son.
RPD Officer George Henry stated in his report that upon his arrival he observed Markham exiting the Hale Springs Inn bar area with blood on his clothes.
Henry and HCSO Detective/DTF Agent Scott Stewart arrived on the scene around the same time, and Stewart reportedly asked Markham to remove his hands from his pockets and if he had a gun.
"Mr. Markham advised he had several guns," Henry stated in his report. "Mr. Markham had alcohol about his breath and person, he was very unsteady on his feet and his speech was slurred."
Henry added, "Mr. Markham then swung at Agent Stewart, striking him on the left side of the face. Mr. Markham was advised to put his hands behind his back, which he refused. At that time, Mr. Markham was placed under arrest after a brief struggle."
Markham was charged with assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public intoxication, and he was released on $13,500 bond.
RPD Chief Doug Nelson said the altercation that took place inside the Hale Springs Inn remains under investigation, but apparently Markham and his son Ben got into a fight in the bar.
"They were in a big fight, which they have been before, and other people tried to break them up, and he (Teddy Markham) started trying to fight everybody else," Nelson said. "I think a couple of other people may have punched him, but I don't know who yet. And then he tried to fight our guys when they got there."
Markham owns and operated Ted's Industrial Supply, 133 Old Route 70-S, Rogersville.
