Around 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Hunter Lamons responded to a report of a domestic assault with shots fired at 158 Elkins Road in the St. Clair community southwest of Rogersville.
Wesley Austin Hardee, 25, stated he retrieved a handgun after his step-father assaulted his mother.
The step-father later denied having assaulted the woman, stating she fell down while assaulting him and then started screaming he had hit her.
The step-father said Hardee then exited the house and pointed a handgun at his face and told him he was going to kill him.
Another family member corroborated the step-father's story and also accused Hardee of shoving her to the ground, knocking a phone out of her had and pointing a firearm at her face.
A neighbor said he was in the yard and observed Hardee with the gun in his hand and later heard a single shot.
Hardee allegedly admitted to shooting a single round into a couch in the backyard to scare his step-father.
Hardee was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of reckless endangerment and remained in the Hawkins County Jail as of Monday.
As for any other alleged assaults, Lamons determined the primary aggressor was unknown and referred the other parties to the Hawkins County Clerk of Courts office to file private prosecution warrants.
