Flash Flood watch issued for region as heavy rain approaches

MORRISTOWN — The National Weather Service reports that moisture continues to stream into the region ahead of an approaching cold front. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected Monday night through Tuesday. Recent heavy rainfall will promote isolated flash flooding for some areas.

With the ground already saturated and streams swollen, the public is advised to take all necessary precautions for impending flooding.

Multiple rescue incidents last week in Hawkins County increased awareness of the importance of not driving through flood roadways. “Turn Around, don’t drown”. 

Where: Moderate to Heavy Rainfall possible across the entire region of East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia through the period. Flash Flooding threat enhanced across the northern valley, northern plateau, and all of southwest Virginia given recent heavy rainfall.

When: Starting late tonight through Tuesday.

What: Moderate to Heavy Rainfall. Isolated Flash Flooding. Minor rises on area streams and creeks.
