According to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report compiled by Trooper Anthony Bull, the wreck occurred shorty after midnight Sunday on Main Street (Route 33) within the Sneedville city limits.
A 2014 Ford Focus was traveling westbound driven by 31-year-old Dustin C. Johnson of Tazewell, Tenn., when it reportedly ran off the right side of the highway and struck a tree at the Walnut Avenue intersection.
Bull stated in his report that the Ford then continued on and struck a parked pickup before coming to rest on the right side of the highway.
Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene, as were passengers Jesse E. Weems, 19, of Bulls Gap, and Starla R. Dalton, 22, of Sneedville.
A third passenger, Dierdra L. Seal, 23, of Sneedville, was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Bull stated in his report that only Johnson was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Bull noted, however, that in this case, a seat belt wouldn't have made a difference for any of the victims.
