Swoboda wins state am; Carter ties for second

NASHVILLE — John Swoboda of Mount Juliet shot 2-under 70 in Friday’s final round to win the 102nd annual Tennessee State Amateur.

The 24-year-old Swoboda finished with a four-round total of 282 at Belle Meade Country Club. He entered the day tied for third.

Kingsport’s Austin Carter closed with a 71 and Johnson City’s Kevin Burns shot a final-round 68 to finish in a four-way tie for second at 283.

Kingsport’s William Nottingham, who held at least a share of the lead since Tuesday’s opening round, had a 75 to wind up tied for seventh at 285.
