UT to hold John Ward tribute on Wednesday

• Jun 23, 2018 at 2:31 AM

KNOXVILLE — Tennessee will pay tribute to “The Voice” next week at Thompson-Bowling Arena.

On June 27, starting at 6 p.m., the UT athletic department and Vol Network will host an event in honor of the late John Ward. The broadcasting icon died Wednesday at the age of 88 following a lengthy illness.

The event will celebrate his Hall of Fame career behind the microphone and feature multiple never-before-seen — or heard — video and audio clips of Ward. The tribute is intended as a way for Ward’s friends and UT fans to honor the impact he made on generations of Big Orange faithful.

Storytelling will be the theme of the night, with several notable UT personalities, VFLs (Vols for Life) and those who knew him best expected to share their memories and personal stories about Ward.

This event won’t be televised or streamed live.

Free parking will be available in the G10 and G16 garages. After 5 p.m, fans also will have access to free parking in administrative garages G3 and G5.

Attendees will have access to the arena beginning at 5 p.m. via gates B, C, D and E, and traditional game-day ADA entrances will be open (the basketball lobby and Arena Dining entrances on Phillip Fulmer Way).

Public seating will be general admission, and all bags may be subject to search upon entry.
