The board Tuesday night voted 7-0 to approve the measure. The Board of Education also voted unanimously to adopt the recommendation of Calendar A or 1, based on results of an online survey, for 2019-20.
That calendar is on the school system’s website. The BOE also approved the contract with Bristol Tennessee Essential Services for the new Sullivan East Middle School and re-elected Michael Hughes chairman and Randall Jones vice chairman. New members Paul Robinson and Randall Gimore had their first meeting after winning seats in the August election; Hughes was re-elected to a second four-year board term.
The vote to elect Hughes, the only nominee, was by acclamation. The vote for vice chairman was 4-3, with Jones getting three votes and Mark Ireson getting three. Jones, Hughes, new board member Randall Gilmore and Matthew Spivey voted for Jones, while new board member Paul Robinson and members Jane Thomas and Ireson voted for Ireson.
