BLUFF CITY — The driver of the pickup involved in a Tuesday afternoon accident with a Sullivan County school bus was injured and transported to a hospital.

However, the three students on the bus at the time of the crash and its driver were not hurt in the incident, Director of Schools Evelyn Rafalowski said.

“All three students and the driver are fine,” Rafalowski said by phone from the scene of the incident. It occurred at the intersection of state Route 19-E and Osbornes Private Drive east of Bluff City.

She said the crash occurred about 3:15 or 3:20 p.m.

Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Kristen Quon could not be reached for immediate comment or further information about the condition of the injured motorist, who Rafalowski said was taken to a hospital.

Students in Sullivan County and other systems returned to school Tuesday after a long Labor Day ted weekend. Look for an update on this story online Tuesday evening and in print Wednesday morning.
