KINGSPORT — Kingsport City Schools is preparing for a Thursday groundbreaking for the new Regional Science and Technology Center, and Dobyns-Bennett High School Principal Chris Hampton is preparing for about 15 months of construction on campus.

The groundbreaking for the $20 million center, also the new “front door” of D-B, is set for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7 in front of the iconic D-B wall sign, which Hampton said will be removed for the project but the letters likely repurposed in the new project, and flag pole. He said current plans are for it to open in March of 2019.

The Board of Education on its consent agenda Tuesday night approved an amendment to the professional services agreement with Perkins + Will Architects for architectural services for the project and an amendment for that firm’s facility assessment of D-B.
