CHURCH HILL — Church Hill Middle School dedicated it’s massive pile of food drive donations this past Thursday in honor of director of schools Steve Starnes.

Beginning Nov. 10 and ending Nov. 17 CHMS students made donations of non-perishable food items which were delivered Thursday to the Church Hill satellite office of the Of One Accord ministry’s food pantry.

A total of 1,810 items were collected by 7th and 8th grade students over the course of one week.

The Church Hill McDonald’s restaurant was also involved by providing a reward to the classrooms that brought in the most items.

On Friday morning CHMS received 150 biscuits from the local McDonald’s as a special breakfast reward party for 7th-grade homeroom students of Heather Jennings (187 items) and Kris Lumpkins (164); and 8th-grade homeroom students of Shanna Smith (491) and Daris Green (106).

“We would like to thank everyone who contributed to this food drive to help assist families within our community,” said special education teacher Jeremy Hutson who spearheaded the drive.

The donation was made in Starnes’s honor as part of director of schools appreciation week.
