Hawkins County's participation in the Tennessee Department Economic and Community Development ThreeStar program resulted in the $15,000 grant that paid for the substation renovations.
Annual participation in the ThreeStar program helps communities develop strategies and plan activities to address goals in five key focus areas of community development:
* Jobs & Economic Development.
* Fiscal Strength & Efficient Government.
* Public Safety.
* Health and Welfare.
* Education and Workforce Development.
As a Tier 3 community, Hawkins County was eligible to apply for a $15,000 competitive grant with no match requirement to address the Public safety area of focus.
The $15,000 grant awarded to Hawkins County was used to improve security at the Phipps Bend Industrial Park by providing a Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office substation inside Phipps Bend Industrial Park.
“Thanks to the Tennessee Department Economic and Community Development ThreeStar Program we are adding another recruitment tool in attracting new industries to Phipps Bend as well as providing additional security to the citizens of Hawkins County,” said Hawkins County Industrial Development Board Executive Administrative Coordinator Rebecca Baker.
The grant is a partnership with the Rogersville/Hawkins County Chamber of Commerce, Hawkins County IDB and Hawkins County Sheriff’s Department.
“By providing this substation additional security will be available at the Phipps Bend Industrial Park and eastern end of Hawkins County,” said Hawkins County Chamber of Commerce Director Nancy Barker. “The station will allow quicker response time by the officers and provides the officers with a place to file reports, training, and security detail which allows them to remain on patrol on the eastern end of the county.”
