Staff report • Nov 8, 2018 at 7:30 PM

KINGSPORT — Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development Commissioner Burns Phillips has announced that Kingsport-based TEC Industrial has been chosen to receive the Governor’s Award of Excellence for Workplace Safety and Health.

Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration (TOSHA) Assistant Commissioner Steve Hawkins recently presented the award to company management and employees.

“TEC Industrial has demonstrated a strong commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace,” said Hawkins. “The evaluation criteria for this award are challenging, and this company has worked extremely hard to meet and exceed the standards the award requires.”

The Governor’s Award of Excellence honors Tennessee employers and employees who meet a required number of hours without workplace injuries serious enough to cause an employee to miss a day of work or restrict normal job activities. The number of hours required to receive this recognition is based on the size of the company.

TEC Industrial is involved in industrial construction and maintenance operations throughout the Southeast.

For this award period, the company qualified for the Governor’s Award by working more than 1,139,000 hours without a lost time or restricted duty workplace injury or illness. Additionally, TEC Industrial has recently achieved a 15 million work-hours milestone without a lost time incident.
