Matthew Rhoton scored 21 points — including five 3-pointers — and Ethan Chavez hauled down a whopping 16 rebounds to go with his 15 points in a 69-67 win that pushed the Eagles’ record to 3-0.
After Jenkins took the lead on a Jeremy Potter 3-pointer with 20 seconds remaining, Rhoton drew a foul and sank two free throws to put the Cove up by one. Jenkins missed a shot on the other end, and Chavez sank a shot from the foul line to set the final margin.
Zach Baker — yet another sophomore — also put up 15 points for Rye Cove. Andrew Jessee added nine points and Mason Hardin had six boards and five points.
Payton Rose had a game-high 23 points for Jenkins. Potter totaled 13 and John Fleming 11.
CASTLEWOOD 81, COUNCIL 50
COUNCIL — The Blue Devils got stellar efforts up and down the lineup to cruise to the nondistrict road win.
Zach Owens hit three 3-pointers and scored 20 points, Shane Aesque put up 16 points, including two 3s, and snagged six steals, and Coleman Cook chipped in 12 points for Castlewood (3-3). Elijah Stafford hauled down a dozen rebounds and added eight points for the Blue Devils, who return home Tuesday night when they welcome Chilhowie.
Caleb Hess scored 16 points and Caleb Stocks had 11 for the Cobras.
UNIVERSITY HIGH 78, ELIZABETHTON 69
JOHNSON CITY — With the game on the line in the fourth quarter, Marshall Fleenor and Mason Broome combined for four 3-point goals to seal the Bucs’ win inside Brooks Gym.
Fleenor finished with a game-high 27 points, getting 18 of them from 3-point range. Kaleb Meredith totaled 23 points, six rebounds and four assists, and Broome came through with 20 points.
Nico Ashley scored 18 points to pace Elizabethton (2-4). William Willocks had 15 points and eight rebounds, and Jake Roberts scored 14 points.
ACTS 81, TRI-CITIES CHRISTIAN 73
BLOUNTVILLE — Adam Pigeon cut loose for 24 points, 14 rebounds and four steals, but it wasn’t enough to carry Tri-Cities Christian to the victory.
Gavyn Etter added 21 points for the Eagles, hitting a trio of treys. Correll chipped in with eight points and 10 rebounds.
Eli Reynolds had 29 points for ACTS.

GRAY — The Lady Cougars won their 11th straight game to start the season by holding off a second-half charge by the Lady Trailblazers.
Sullivan Central held a 35-15 advantage at the halftime break.
Abbey Crawford totaled 19 points to pace the Lady Cougars. Avery Leming hit four 3-pointers and finished with 12 points and Peyton Sams added 11.
Madi Runnels had 14 points and Jaycie Jenkins 13 for Daniel Boone (6-5).
ELIZABETHTON 63, UNIVERSITY HIGH 15
JOHNSON CITY — The Lady Cyclones (5-6) romped to a 41-5 halftime lead in their blowout of the Lady Bucs (0-8).
Lina Lyon, a 5-foot freshman guard led five Elizabethton players in double figures with 13 points. Kaylen Shell scored 11, and Kaitlin Bailey, Morgan Headrick and McKendra Norris each score 10.
Mauri Johnson paced University High with seven points.

ELIZABETHTON — Jasmine Birchfield paced the Lady Highlanders’ nonconference victory with 11 points. Kenzie Birchfield chipped in with eight.

NICKELSVILLE — The Lady Titans stormed back from a 29-16 halftime deficit but fell just short of a victory against the visiting Lady Cavaliers.
Emaleigh Powers poured in 18 points for Twin Springs (2-4), going 6-for-8 from the free-throw line and hitting two 3s. Emma Dingus added 13 points and Aubrey Powers chipped in eight.
Liyah French scored 10 points and Katie Lawson nine for Holston.
