Prep roundup: Culbertson leads J.I. Burton to win over Lebanon

NORTON — Mikey Culbertson led four Raiders in double figures with 16 points as J.I. Burton defeated Lebanon 75-41 on Monday night. Jonah Cochrane pumped in 14 points, followed by Trevor Culbertson with 13 and Zac Campbell with 10.

Sage Potts had nearly half of Lebanon’s scoring with 19 points’ and Preston Steele scored 11.

David Crockett 98, Jellico 69

JONESBOROUGH — David Crockett came just one basket short of the century mark in a thumping of Jellico at their home gym.

Donta Hackler led the Pioneers with 20 points and seven rebounds. Dawson Wagner did his part with 19 points and five assists.

Mack Hensley had an all-around effort of 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Other leaders were Mason Britton with 11 points and seven assists, and Avery Letcher with 10 points.

Freshman guard Hayden Llewellyn poured in a game-high 32 points for the Blue Devils. Bobby Zecchini totaled 17 points.

Unaka 63, Happy Valley 49

ELIZABETHTON — Ryan Johnson hit seven shots from 3-point range and scored 24 as the Rangers handed the Warriors their first loss of the season.

Dylan Whitehead recorded a 16-point night, while Will Sexton chimed in with 13, and Joseph Slagle netted nine.

Noah Stevens had a game-high 27 points for Happy Valley. Dylan Willis scored eight.

Cloudland 61, Johnson County 59

ROAN MOUNTAIN — Elijah Blair scored off a put-back with 20 seconds left to put the Highlanders up by five before the Longhorns’ Jake Bower hit a 3-point shot to cut the lead to two.

Johnson County came up with the basketball near the end, but called its sixth timeout, which ended the game.

Blair totaled 23 points, and Hunter Shell scored 18 points for Cloudland. Lucas Phillips produced a 21-point effort, and Micah Oxentine harvested 14 to lead the Longhorns.

Cherokee 60, West Greene 40

ROGERSVILLE —The Chiefs pulled out to 33-18 halftime lead and held a double-digit lead throughout the second half in the win.

Breiydon Gilliam recorded a 28-point performance, and Andrew Cope added a dozen as the duo matched the Buffaloes’ team total.


David Crockett 73, Jellico 18

JONESBOROUGH — The Lady Pioneers raced out to a 42-10 halftime lead and kept the hammer down in a romp over the Lady Devils.

Nora Walters led the way offensively with 12 points, followed by Carlie Wilson with 11 and Zoe Sanders with nine. Morgan Lewis hauled in 10 rebounds as Crockett had 41 rebounds overall.

Kayla Anderson scored 14 of Jellico’s 18 points.

Happy Valley 47, Unaka 42

ELIZABETHTON — Shalyn Whitson scored 20 points, and Kadie Bailey finished with 11 points as the Lady Warriors won the cross county matchup.

Lyndie Ramsey finished with a game-high 21 points for the Lady Rangers, and Jada Whitehead scored a dozen.

Cloudland 41, Johnson County 36

ROAN MOUNTAIN — The Lady Highlanders outscored the Lady Longhorns 26-8 in the first half enroute to the victory.

Heaven Caraway led Cloudland with 10 points, followed by six apiece for Kenzie Birchfield and Mandy Benfield.

Taylor Cox paced Johnson County’s efforts with 14, and Taylor Parsons came through with nine.

Cherokee 60, West Greene 28

ROGERSVILLE — Destiny Jarnigan netted 19 points and the Lady Chiefs decimated the Lady Buffaloes.

Macy McDavid scored nine points, while Lydia Alvis and Gema Brooks each ended with eight.

Megan Daniels led West Greene with 12 points, and Madi Brown scored six.

Volunteer 56, University High 8

The Lady Falcons took a 28-3 halftime lead, but unlike the Atlanta Falcons in the Super Bowl against New England, gave no chance for a comeback.

Audrey Evans tallied 15 points, Atlee Dean chimed in 11 and Emily Wyatt had eight.

Mauri Johnson and Ryleigh Owen had three each for the Bucs.

Pikeville, Ky. 74, Ridgeview 58

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Kelsey Tackett and Katie Williams each scored 20 points for the Lady Panthers in the win over the Lady Pack.

Trinity Rowe added 14 points, while Ridgeview was doomed by 18 turnovers.

It offset a 19-point, 10-rebound night by Hailey Sutherland. Brooklyn Frazier contributed 15 points and Shae Sutherland ended with eight.

Thomas Walker 61, Lynn Camp, Ky. 32

LYNN CAMP, Ky. — The Lady Pioneers used a stifling defense, racing out to a 27-4 lead over the Lady Wildcats in the first quarter and not looking back.

Shelbie Fannon had 12 points, Tenley Jackson finished with 11 and Tayln Dibrell followed with nine for Thomas Walker.

Bella Blevins led the home squad with nine points.
