Lady Cougars speed away to Thanksgiving Classic win

BLUFF CITY — Sullivan Central raced out to a 30-7 lead after one quarter against Unaka then cruised in for a 73-44 victory Tuesday in girls basketball action in the Food City Thanksgiving Classic at Sullivan East.

The Lady Cougars (3-0) earned their second win over the Lady Rangers (1-2) in the past week.

Macy McClellan led the way offensively with 16 points. Jaelyn West and Abby Crawford each totaled 13 for Central.

Jada Whitehead was Unaka’s leading scorer with 14 points. Lyndie Ramsey ended with eight and Mailey Guy added seven for the Lady Rangers.

SULLIVAN EAST 58, GREENEVILLE 57

BLUFF CITY — Emma Aubrey hit a 3-point shot near the top of the key with six seconds left to lift the Lady Patriots (3-2) over the Lady Devils (2-2).

East pulled out the win after Greeneville had rallied from a 13- point halftime deficit and a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to take the lead.

Aubrey’s game-winner was her third 3-point goal in a nine-point effort. Morgan Bringman and Hayley Grubb each finished with 15 points to lead East, and Jenna Hare came through with 11.

Shavon Weems had 13 points to lead the Lady Devils. Lindy Carter, who gave Greeneville its first lead with 3:44 left, added 12 points and Delana DeBusk scored 11.

SCIENCE HILL 55, SULLIVAN CENTRAL 26

BLUFF CITY — The Hilltoppers held the Cougars to 10 first-half points in their Food City Thanksgiving Classic matchup.

Science Hill (3-0) snagged 18 steals and the Cougars (0-3) hurt themselves with 31 turnovers.

Hunter Phillips shot 6-for-7 from the field and had a game-high 14 points for Science Hill. He also had two blocks.

Joltin Harrison scored six points and Jacob Fields five for Central.

SOUTH GREENE 62, UNICOI COUNTY 55

BLUFF CITY — South Greene withstood Unicoi County’s second-half rally.

The Rebels (2-2) led 20-8 at the end of one quarter and 33-21 at the half before the Blue Devils (2-1) came back for a 41-41 tie in the third quarter. The Rebels scored the next seven points to get back in control.

Clint Lamb paced South Greene with 19 points. Chase Carter finished with 13, followed by Sully Fox 10 and Ty Bailey with nine.

Brett Lingerfelt made five shots behind the arc to end with a game-high 20 points for Unicoi. Brock Thompson was next high with 14 points for the Blue Devils and Robbie O’Dell scored nine.
