“The guys had a great year, I don’t want them to linger on that one inning,” said Golden Raiders coach Steve Dixon, whose team was runner-up to University High in the regular- season standings. “We have a good group coming back.”
HOW THEY SCORED
The Golden Raiders took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Chandler Raleigh was hit by a pitch and stood on third when Cole Bear came to the plate. Bear laid down a bunt single to the right side, and Dale Potter later scored on a double steal after singling to left.
Then came the Huskies’ big inning. Ten batters marched to the plate and five runs scored before an out was recorded. Carson Whaley, Cayden Foulks and Turner Bailey had RBI hits in succession.
North cut its deficit in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from Braydon Wilhoit. Tyler Depriest walked and advanced to third on Casey Hartsell’s double before Wilhoit drove him home.
In the fifth, an RBI single from Bear through the left side brought in Potter, who had reached on a wild pitch on a strikeout, but the Raiders couldn’t draw any closer.
Whaley and Chase Malone finished with two hits apiece for the Huskies.
Wilhoit threw all seven innings for the Golden Raiders. He scattered six hits, struck out two and walked two.
