Kingsport has been planning to fix Main Street for years and the project is on the cusp of getting under way. But before work could start on the $5.5 million rebuild, city leaders needed to make a decision on what to do with the overhead power lines that run down Main Street.
A conceptual plan shows the houses and buildings at the intersection demolished and in their place a new development, one with a pharmacy at the corner and a restaurant (with a double-lane drive-thru) next door.
KINGSPORT — Eastern Eight has invested more than $1 million in single family houses throughout the Kingsport area, most notably four houses in the Riverview neighborhood during the HOPE VI redevelopment project, financing the 31 houses built along Sherwood and Hiwassee and building six houses in the Gibson Mill redevelopment area.
Earlier this summer two local developers requested tax increment financing (TIF) from the Kingsport Housing and Redevelopment Authority. Mitch Cox (of Johnson City) for Riverbend Villas and K.D. Moore (of Bristol, Tenn.) for a 168-unit complex called the “Overlook at Indian Trail” behind Kmart on E. Stone Drive.
