The Bristol Herald Courier is reporting that two UVa-Wise freshman charged in the beating of a fellow student have waived their rights to a preliminary trial.

Tennessee bill drops cockfighting to misdemeanor, raises fine

NASHVILLE Legislation to make cockfighting a felony in Tennessee has been revised to instead declare it a Class A misdemeanor on first offense with a minimum $2,500 fine.

Lightning strikes tree, at least three houses; 2 people injured, 1 dog killed

KNOXVILLE Two people have been sent to area hospitals and a dog is dead this evening after lightning bounced off a tree and struck at least three houses in Northeast Knoxville, authorities said.
