Tennessee Safe Boating Course set for Northeast State

Are you ready to hit the water? The Tri-Cities Boating Club and Johnson City Sail & Power Squadron want you to be safe when you do. A free-to-the-public, two-night Tennessee Safe Boating Course will be held April 29 and May 1.

Although a state budget deal remains elusive in Richmond, funding to create a new state park along the Clinch River in parts of Wise, Scott and Russell counties appears to be a safe bet for the time being.

The 15-day paddlefish season formerly opened on March 1, with warm water discharges from the John Sevier Steam Plant Dam stimulating an early migration date. With the steam plant has shut down, the TWRA moved the season opener to April 1.
