The system already has bought 1,184 laptops for students and 464 iPads for teachers in the past two years. The board had asked for $750,000 from the city for laptops but ended up with $300,000 for 2014-15.

The fire did not break through the exterior part of the roof and Moore said he does not know how much of the roof would need to be replaced, maybe just two sides, but possibly the whole roof. The deadline to finish the welcome center project was Sept. 29.
