Inside Sherrod Library on the campus of East Tennessee State, Jessica Bowman was laying out her supplies. In a little under an hour, she will no longer be Jessica Bowman, biology student, but Sailor Venus, an anime character from "Sailor Moon."

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. — When a stray bullet pierced the top of Brendon Mackey’s head, the 7-year-old was on his way to a July Fourth fireworks celebration with his dad and other family members. He died the next day in a Richmond hospital.

Four bodies have been recovered from the site of a plane crash in a residential Connecticut neighborhood, a fire official said Saturday. Those presumed dead are the pilot, his teenage son and two children in a home struck by the plane.
