Appalachia coal miner killed in Kentucky mine accident

HOLMES MILL, Ky. — Kentucky Office of Mine Safety and Licensing officials said Lenny D. Gilliam, 56, of Appalachia was killed and two other miners injured as they conducted retreat mining operations at Arch Coal Inc.’s Huff Creek Mine in Harlan County.

A Lenoir Road man advised he was mowing his yard when a neighbor "started yelling." When he turned his mower around to talk, the other individual complained about him "blowing grass on his fence" — and threatened to "fix the problem."
