Authorities began looking for Jessica Smith on Friday after a housekeeper at the Surfsand Resort in Cannon Beach found the body of Smith's 2-year-old daughter in a room. The other daughter, age 13, was badly cut and taken to a hospital for surgery.

The victim's friends became alarmed and told him to put the gun away but he reportedly removed two to three rounds, held the gun to his cheek, and told his friends it was empty before he pulled the trigger.
