Tuesday's special election was prompted by the resignation of former state Sen. Phillip Puckett, D-Lebanon, in June, at least temporarily giving Republicans control by a single vote in the state Senate.

'Bald Johnny' allegedly linked to theft of stepfather's guns

Jonathan Arnold "Bald Johnny" Fairchild was immediately suspected of stealing two handguns from his stepfather's closet last year. When both guns surfaced this past April, that suspicion was allegedly confirmed.

A woman allegedly told her father last week there was a man with a handgun in the parking lot of the Bulls Gap pharmacy. That story, which turned out to be bogus, was relayed by the father to pharmacy employees.

At 10:30 a.m. police were alerted to a disturbance at a restaurant on Clinchfield Street. The suspect was soon located walking nearby, where he admitted to telling an employee "how stupid she was."

Brandie M. Baldwin will serve a net 14 years in prison for her role in the death of 2-year old Emma Baldwin on or around Oct. 19, 2012. According to the child's father, Baldwin preferred to "party Emma's life away, slowly" rather than be a proper mother.
