Carter County Sheriff Chris Mathes said a man who was reported missing on Sunday was found dead from apparent drowning in Watauga Lake.

The Cherokee and their British allies attacked Fort Watauga Saturday and drove the settlers inside the fort. Just as it seemed bad for the people in the fort everything stopped.
