BOE gets good news on BEP numbers, not-so-good news about Sevier Middle roof

Superintendent Lyle Ailshie told the board that the "July final" BEP, or Basic Education Program, numbers from Tennessee came in Wednesday afternoon and were about $107,000 higher than the June estimate, which in turn was $68,000 over the May estimate.

The State Board of Education gave a nod of approval for a proposal that could allow teachers who consistently score highly on annual state-mandated teacher evaluations to bypass training requirements to advance or to renew licenses.

"I anticipate we'll be well up to 150 to 160 before we start school," Director of Schools Jubal Yennie said. He added that he expected students would be allowed to apply for available IA slots for about two weeks after school starts in August.
