Gate City woman faces false report, weapons charges

A woman accused of faking a stabbing last year to conceal her son’s involvement in a string of neighborhood burglaries had her bond revoked Monday due to weapons charges.

The Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office is asking the community for help in identifying burglars who were caught in the act last week at a house near Surgoinsville, and then struck the 74-year-old homeowner with their escape vehicle.

GREENEVILLE — A Kingsport man who shot his wife’s ex-husband to death in the Stanley Valley community in 2012 and then set the victim’s home on fire was sentenced Monday to 29 years in prison with no chance for parole.

ELIZABETHTON — The victim was identified as Timothy Gary Cook, 26, 183 HIlton Hill Road. Sheriff Chris Mathes said it appeared he was shot one time in the chest and was dead at the scene when deputies arrived.
