Former Carter County church treasurer pleads guilty to stealing funds

Silas Edward Sams, 67, pleaded guilty to one count of theft over $60,000, nine counts of forgery and one count of theft over $1,000.

Roger Franklin, of Elizabethton, appeared in U.S. District Court in Greeneville earlier this month to plead guilty to a one-count information charging him with wire fraud. Franklin faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
