Hawkins Recovery Court to celebrate first graduate with ceremony

Recovery Court is a more optimistic name for a program which is more commonly referred to as "Drug Court." It gives nonviolent offenders with a drug problem an opportunity to receive treatment instead of jail time.

A Hawkins County man who has been wanted for a year after allegedly escaping a police pursuit, leaving behind 47 syringes and an empty vodka bottle in his car, was arrested early Tuesday morning in Kingsport.

Commonwealth's Attorney Marcus McClung said all three cases involved drivers who failed to pull over after an officer initiated a traffic stop. He said two of the pursuits — including one that reached speeds of 120 mph — took place in the Gate City area.
