Denied!: Shoplifter arrested after asking detective to use phone

The incident began on Friday when a plain-clothed officer with the Kingsport Police Department was walking through the parking lot of a local grocery store. He observed a woman walking briskly from the store with a store employee following her.

Following a two-day trial in October, Roger Dale Stewart, 63, 5281 Highway 11-W, Rogersville, was convicted by a Hawkins County jury of criminally negligent homicide and two counts of felony reckless endangerment — all of which are class E felonies.
