On Thursday, The Health Wagon hosted a special dedication of a relatively new clinic near downtown Wise in Smiddy's honor, and also showed off the group's new mobile unit.

Year-round donations fuel annual Thanks for Giving event

Thanks for Giving collects donations from the community and gives the donations to needy families in the area for free. Last year saw the biggest turnout ever for the event with between 1,800 and 2,000 people showing up.

Following Delilah's death in May, Jeff and Heather Watts created the "Princess Delilah Foundation." The organization's first event is a "Bikers & Bows Poker Run" this weekend, with proceeds providing clothing for premature babies.

Elsie Whistine ran a daycare in her home, caring for 15 or so children a day, for more than 35 years. In 1989 at the age of 64 — the age when many are considering retiring — she decided to start delivering newspapers.
