Before Helen Wilmoth turned 70 two years ago, she'd thought a fun way to celebrate would be to bicycle 70 miles with a group of friends.But she was still recovering from major back surgery, and a ride of that length didn't seem feasible that year.

Kitchen of Hope to mark 15 years with open house

For 15 years, the Kitchen of Hope has provided free hot meals to folks in need in the Kingsport area. Daily attendance at the kitchen was around 50 to 75 in 2005, compared to the current levels of 150 to 175 and sometimes greater.

The annual Summer Food Service Program provides federal funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture that allows sponsor organizations to provide meals and snacks to lower-income children under 18 when school is out for summer break.
