Ralph Payne, 81, died Tuesday (Nov. 4, 2008) at Takoma Regional Hospital. Born Sept. 25, 1927, he retired from C&E Minerals of Greeneville. He was of the Baptist faith. Ralph loved talking to and meeting people from all walks of life and never knew a stranger. He was a kind hearted person and never turning any one away that needed help. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, M.A. and Stella Ball Payne; sisters, Gracey Lee Payne and Sarah Mae Barkley; brothers, Harley Howard Payne and Curtis Payne. Surviving are his sisters, Ruth Beaman of Kingsport, Josephine Taylor of Memphis (formerly of Johnson City), Pauline White of Union Temple; brother, Lonzo Payne of Greeneville; special friend and caregiver, Diane Price of Greeneville and Tosha Ricker, who was much like a granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. Calling hours are from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jimmie Rogers officiating. Burial will be at Oak Dale Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dean Payne, Gary White, Jeff Hawk, Kenneth Payne, Roger Beaman, Kenneth Freshour and Cameron Spradlin. Honorary pallbearers will the staff of Life Care Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
