WISE, Va. Harvey Jack Ellis Miller, 84, passed away Monday (Nov. 3, 2008) at his home in Wise, Va. surround by his loving family. He was a Christian, attending the Mount Olive Freewill Baptist Church and was a mechanic and owner of Jack Miller and Sons for 33 years. He was a Veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne, was a Paratrooper and a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Mamie Ellis Miller; a grandson, Adam Miller; and several brothers and sisters. Surviving are his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Minton Miller; children, Linda Miller, Jackie Miller and wife, Kimra, Chuck Miller and wife, Val, David Miller and wife, Donna and Kenny Miller; grandchildren, Mandy Funk, Mamie Thacker, Michelle Smith, Andrea Dotson, Amy Kennedy, Ashley Miller, Charles Ellis Miller II, Mary Jane Sturgill, Kendra Fleming, Jennifer Miller, Autumn Miller, Chase Miller, Ashton Miller, Nikki Miller and Jimmy Frank Combs II; 10 great-grandchildren; one future great-grandson; a sister, Georgia Murray of San Antonio, Tex.; several nieces and nephews; a host of other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Sturgill Funeral Home, Wise, Va. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Charles Large and Rev. John Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Wise Cemetery Wise, Va. with military graveside rites conducted by the local VFW members and the Virginia National Guard.
