On Thursday (Dec. 8, 2016), historic Blountville hosted a tree-lighting ceremony in front of the historic Sullivan County Courthouse.
A combined choir of more than 100 students from Blountville Middle School under the direction of Darren Malcolm and Holston Middle School under the direction of Melissa Haas performed Christmas carols.
The lighting of a large tree in front of the courthouse is a long-held tradition. New to this year’s event was the addition and lighting of a second tree sponsored by the Hope for Victims Support and Advocacy Group — in remembrance of victims of violence. Members of the public were invited to bring ornaments to place on a wreath in honor of victims of violence.
