KINGSPORT — Although moved inside because of the threat of rain from the aftermath of Hurricane Florence, the annual Kids Day Saturday at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Kingsport drew about 70 children inside 1 Postive Place just off Stone Drive.

The event, which ran from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., included free food provided by local restaurants, free ground ice treats, otherwise known as Sno Cones, and plenty of time to jump in large inflatables. Originally scheduled for the football field, the event was moved inside the club because of the threat of rain.

Baptists and Methodists, in addition to local eateries, helped out with the day.

Chef's Pizzeria, Freddie's Frozen Custard, Jersey Mike’s and Braeden’s Barbeque all joined in together to make the national Kids Day observance a great day with wonderful food, said the Rev. Keith Snodgrass of New Fellowship Ministries.

The Sullivan Baptist Association, through New Fellowship Ministries and Port City Baptist Church (formerly Litz Manor Baptist) donated the use of their bounce houses which were set up in the gyms.

In addition to the food and play, young people attending could get free jeans through the Jeans4Teens, a program of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church in Kingsport. Members of the church and club officials estimated about 40 pairs of jeans or pants were given away during the event. Club officials said about 70 in all attended the event.

Club officials said the event was open to all youth in the area but that most attendees were members of the club. They also said they would like to thank Braeden's BBQ & Catering, Chef's Pizzeria, Freddy's Frozen Custard and Jersey Mike's for stepping up to provide food for the event.

The club's website is http://www.kbgc.org/ and it has programs available throughout the year, including youth sports and summer programs. For more information, go the website or call (423) 230-4160 weekdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
