SURGOINSVILLE - While Hawkins County motorists are enjoying the new Longs Bend Road bridge in Surgoinsville, a few feet away demolition of the old bridge spanning the Holston River is under way.
The decking of the 60-year-old bridge has already been removed, and the steel girder frame is currently being dismantled.
Later the piers will be dynamited and removed.
The newly constructed bridge was opened Feb. 10, well ahead of the previous completion deadline in May.
There is no definite timeline for completion of the old bridge removal.comments powered by Disqus
