Crews are working to install a new 160-foot steeple on the top of First Broad Street United Methodist Church this week. The church retired the previous, 70-year-old steeple last September due to the condition of the wood.
Last week, the pieces of the steeple arrived in town and since then crews have been working to assemble and lift the pieces into place.
The 12,000-pound steeple looks almost identical to its predecessor and as a finishing touch, the church plans to reinstall the original cross on top of the spire.
