GATE CITY — Gate City closed out its last regular-season home volleyball match Monday evening with a 25-10, 25-18, 25-16 win over former district rival Virginia High.
It was the fifth meeting between the teams this season and the fifth time the Lady Blue Devils came away with a victory.
Gate City led just 10-7 in Game 1 before racing off on a 15-3 run to pick up the opening win. Games 2 and 3 were similar — other than Gate City trailing 1-0 in both — but the Lady Devils were in control throughout the match.
“Defensively we played really well. Hayley Wolfe did a good job leading the back row. In fact, they all did well,” said Gate City coach Amy Reed.
Kerri Hite led the Lady Devils with 22 assists, and Haley Reed added 18 assists to go with four kills. Lindsey Harper and Caitlin McConnell had 14 kills each.
With the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament already secured, Gate City closes out the regular season Tuesday with a trip to Mountain District rival Lee High.
