Cherokee boy and girl bowlers honored for trip for state tourney

ROGERSVILLE — Earlier this month the Hawkins County Board of Education recognized Cherokee High School’s bowling team for an excellent 2017-18 season which included trips sectional and regional championships and a trip to the state tournament for the boys and girls teams.

The boys finished with a record of 18-2, and earned Regional and Sectional championships, which qualified them for the TSSAA State Tournament. Logan Mallory qualified for the state tournament as an individual.

The girls team finished the season 20-0, earning their regional and sectional championships as well en route to a state tournament appearance. Shelby Garrison qualified for the state tournament as an individual, and finished 9th out of 54 competitors. This was the third consecutive year Cherokee's bowlers went to state.

The teams, which attended the Feb. 1 Hawkins County BOE, received a standing ovation from the board and others in attenndance.
