JONESBOROUGH — Senior Night at David Crockett resulted in a split decision Tuesday.

The Pioneers bested Cherokee 77-51 on the heels of the Lady Chiefs’ 59-48 victory.

The game was Crockett’s final regular-season Big 7 Conference contest of the year, and the boys still could finish anywhere from third to fifth in the league standings.

David Crockett (13-14, 6-6) opened with a 12-1 run in four minutes with Paul Arrowood getting six points in the scoring spree.

Cherokee (10-14, 2-9) raced off on a 9-0 run spanning the first and second quarters only to see the Pioneers regroup for 12 straight points. McHale Bright did most of the damage for Crockett this time, scoring six in the spurt.

Bright finished with 17 points to lead the winning side. Camara Bradley scored 15 and Arrowood finished with 11.

Ryan Bledsoe did his part for Cherokee by pouring in a game-high 18 points. Bronson Shipley hit four 3-pointers for a dozen points.

David Crockett (7-19, 1-11) enjoyed a 10-9 lead halfway through the first quarter thanks to five points from Mackenzie Baldwin, who finished as one of three Lady Pioneers in double digits with 13 points.

Cherokee (11-15, 3-8) answered with the game’s next nine points to own the 18-10 advantage early in the second quarter. Mataylin Goins reeled off five straight points in the run en route to 10 for the game.

Emma Gouge scored at the 6:21 mark of the second quarter to pull the Lady Pioneers closer at 18-14.

That turned out to be the final score for the home team until the 6:33 mark of the third quarter. In that span Cherokee extended the margin thanks to a 12-0 spurt.

Gouge paced David Crockett with 14 points.

David Crockett trailed 46-32 at the start of the fourth but cut the margin.

Kassie Lowe hit a 3-pointer with 4:02 left go make the score 49-43, but that was as close as the margin got.

Lowe had 10 points in the game.
