Rogersville Heritage Days seeks entries for quilt, art shows

ROGERSVILLE — Remember back when? You know, back when everyone sat down to eat together, back when we were all not over-scheduled, over-worked, and over-tired? Remember back when we were winding down our day and would wrap up in a quilt that our grandmothers, mothers, aunts, or friends made? Yes, those were great times, and while many things have changed, there is at least one thing has remained constant.

Grandmothers, mothers, aunts, fathers, uncles and friends continue the tradition of quilting still today. Some of these quilters will be displaying their talents at the 38th Annual Heritage Days Quilt Show at the Courthouse in downtown Rogersville. The Quilt Show has something for everyone. The show has three sectors. The main sector is a competition where quilters compete in different categories to test their sewing and creative skills. This competition is open to everyone and includes quilts, wall hangings, and a variety of quilted items.

The second sector is a result of the Heritage Association partnering with the local quilt guild. The Happy Hearts Quilt Guild annually poses a challenge project to its members. This year’s challenge is a garden. The members are to make a quilt or wall hanging that has a garden theme and must have a butterfly, dragonfly, or other items, and a specific piece of fabric included in their entry.

The third sector of the Quilt Show definitely rings true to this year’s Heritage Days theme of Windows to Our Heritage by displaying antique quilts. Individuals are invited to bring their antique quilts to display them during the show.

The Quilt Show will be at the Courthouse during the Heritage Days hours. Anyone who is interested in participating in the show can pick up an application at the Hale Springs Inn, Chamber of Commerce, the Public Library and U-Save Pharmacy. Additionally applications are available on the Heritage Days Facebook page under the “Applications” tab, or requesting an application at [email protected] Phone requests may be made at 423-923-3636 or 281-782-0802.

The deadline for mail-in applications is Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the Heritage Association’s office at 415 Depot Street, Rogersville, TN 37857. Quilt entry turn-in is Monday, October 9, 2017 between 10:00 a.m, and 3:00 p.m. at the Heritage Association office.
