The bride-elect is the daughter of Clarence Jr. and Patricia Wininger of Gate City, Va., and the granddaughter of Clarence and Ella Wininger of Gate City, and the late Ellis and Wilma Kimbler. She graduated summa cum laude from East Tennessee State University, where she was a member of Beta Alpha Psi. She is employed as a cost accountant at Eastman Chemical Co. and is a member of Tri-Cities Baptist Church, Gray.The bridegroom-to-be is the son of Terry and Connie Begley of Kingsport, and the grandson of Ruth Brooks of Kingsport, the late Ernest Brooks, the late Rev. Gerald Begley and the late Velma Begley. He graduated with high honors from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering and a minor in business administration. He is employed as a Six-Sigma Black Belt at Eastman Chemical Co., and is a member of Tri-Cities Baptist Church.

Mr. and Mrs. David Custard of Ocean City, N.J., are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jill Custard, to Capt. Phillip Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnson of Kingsport.The bride-elect is a 1998 graduate of South Hunterdon Regional High School and in 2000, received her beautician credentials from Gordon Phillips Beauty School, Trenton, N.J.The bridegroom-to-be is a 1995 graduate of Sullivan South High School. In 2003, he received a bachelor's degree from Middle Tennessee State University and commissioned in the U.S. Air Force. He is stationed at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey, as an aircraft maintenance officer.The couple first met March 14, 2008, and they have been inseparable since. Phillip proposed to Jill on Dec. 10, 2009, shortly after returning home from an overseas deployment.Jill and Phillip will get married May 29, 2010, at Litz Manor Baptist Church, Kingsport. After they wed, they will prepare to relocate to Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota, where they will take on a new assignment and a new life together.Both of their families are extremely happy for the two of them, and wish them nothing but love and happiness.

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth G. "Jerry" (Judith Wheeler) Deskins celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary April 30, 2010, with their children and grandchildren at the home of their daughter Leta Deskins' home in Cary, N.C.The couple was married April 30, 1960, at Gravely Road Baptist Church, with the Rev. J.C. Cartee officiating.They are the parents of Val M. Deskins of Fort Collins, Colo.; Leta L. Deskins of Cary, N.C., and Patrick R. Deskins of Gate City, Va.They are the grandparents of Lesley Duncan of Kingsport; Ryan Duncan of Cary; Kerianne Deskins of Kingsport; Keely Deskins of Gate City, and William Deskins of Gate City.Mr. Deskins is self-employed at Holston Insurance and Real Estate, Weber City, Va.Mrs. Deskins retired from Holston Valley Medical Center after 25 years of service as an X-ray technician and a registered nurse in the cardiac intensive care unit.
