She is a 2006 graduate of Powell Valley High School and received a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Virginia's College at Wise in 2010.The bridegroom-to-be is the son of Charles and Jean Slemp of Dryden, and the grandson of Fay Slemp of Pennington Gap, and Bernice Doss of Danville. He is a 2004 graduate of Lee High School and received a bachelor's degree in psychology at the University of Virginia's College at Wise in 2008 and a master's degree in clinical psychology at Eastern Kentucky University in 2010.
Dockery and Absher wedding announcement
Sarah Elizabeth Dockery of Fort Blackmore, Va. and Breven Keith Absher of Manville, Va., plan to be married in an open-church ceremony at 2 p.m., July 24, 2010 at Weber City Church of God, Yuma Road, Weber City, Va.The bride-elect is the daughter of Bonnie and Brian Gibson of Fort Blackmore, and Greg Dockery of Fort Blackmore. She is the granddaughter of Danny Ray Laney of Coeburn, Va.; Jeanette Baker of Coeburn; Sandra and Marvin Gibson of Fort Blackmore; and Gladys Cleek of Gate City, Va. She graduated from Gate City High School and attends Mountain Empire Community College. She is employed by Holston View Daycare and Preschool.The bridegroom-to-be is the son of Ronnie L. and Kim Absher of Manville, and the grandson of Joseph "Jay" Christian of Manville, the late Eloise Christian, and Mack and Tiny Absher of Kingsport. He graduated from Gate City High School and attends Mountain Empire Community College pursuing a degree in nursing. He is employed by Johnston Memorial Hospital.The couple attends Weber City Church of God.
Knight and Davis engagement
Johnny and Valerie Davis of Kingsport announce the engagement of their son John Bradley Davis of Jonesborough to Rebecca Sarah Knight of Johnson City. She is the daughter of David and Nancy Knight of Hampton, N.J.Mr. Davis graduated in 1997 from Sullivan Central High School and in 2004 from East Tennessee State University with a bachelor's degree in engineering technology. He also received a bachelor's degree in recording industry from Middle Tennessee State University. He is a direct support specialist with Frontier Health, Bristol, Tenn. Ms. Knight graduated in 1999 from Voorhees High School in Glen Gardner, N.J., and in 2002 from Messiah College, Grantham, Pa., with a bachelor's degree in sociology and in 2008 from Eastern University, St. Davids, Pa., with a master's degree in nonprofit management. She is the director of Home Repair Ministries at Appalachia Service Project, Johnson City. The couple plan to be married on Aug. 14, 2010 in a wedding ceremony at First Presbyterian Church, Elizabethton.
Ross and Sneed marriage
Elizabeth Joan Sneed of Kingsport, and Phillip Clay Ross of Kingsport, were married in a beachfront ceremony June 5, 2010, at Hilton Head Island, S.C. Dr. Marvin Cameron officiated at the 6 p.m. ceremony.The bride is the daughter of Norris and Donna Sneed of Kingsport, and the granddaughter of Joan Sneed of Lancaster, S.C., the late Calvin Sneed, Eunice Gibson of Concord, N.C., and the late J.W. Gibson. The bridegroom is the son of Robert and Carolyn Ross of Kingsport, and the grandson of Louis and Jean Ross of Sparta, Tenn., and the late Virgil and Eula Davis.Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a designer, silk shantung ballgown. The bodice featured a sweetheart neckline and was detailed with rouching and a band of sea pearls and Swarovski crystals under the bust and drop waist. The skirt extended into a chapel-length train.Caroline Williams, sister-in-law of the bride, of Kingsport, was matron of honor. Melissa Sneed, sister of the bride, of Kingsport, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Whitney Ross, sister-in-law of the bridegroom, of Johnson City; Amber Mabe of Kingsport; Gillian Reasor of Warner Robbins, Ga., and Rene McBride of Kingsport. Honorary bridesmaids were Erin and Melissa Nanney of Chattanooga, Tenn. Best men were Ian Ross, brother of the bridegroom, of Johnson City, and Robert Ross, father of the bridegroom. Groomsmen were Preston Sneed, brother of the bride, of Tucker, Ga.; Jason Williams, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, of Kingsport; Jon Woods of Kingsport, and Bob Flanary of Kingsport.A reception was held at The Hilton Oceanfront Resort.The bride graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 2006 and from Carson-Newman College in May 2010.The bridegroom graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 2005 and from East Tennessee State University in 2009. He attends Wake Forest University School of Law.Following a wedding trip to Savannah, Ga., and Naples, Fla., the couple resides in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Montieze Fogle Potts 99th birthday
Montieze Fogle Potts will celebrate her 99th birthday with a drop-in birthday reception held in her honor from 2 to 4 p.m., July 11, 2010 at the Price Public Community Center, Rogersville.The event it being hosted by her family in celebration of 99 years of life's blessings.Your presence is the only gift requested.Mrs. Potts was born July 12, 1911 in Livingston, S.C., to Tillie and Ermania Fogle. She is the sole survivor of 10 children. She is the widow of the Rev. C.N. Potts who preceded her in death in April 1966. Montieze and her first husband, Edward Kirkland, had two sons, Edward Kirkland Jr. (wife, Phyllis) and the late Robert E. Kirkland (wife, Sue).Montieze and the Rev. Potts had one daughter, Joyce Potts who resides in Rogersville with "Mom."Montieze has four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. When her health allows, Montieze attends Rogersville First United Methodist Church, supervises the making of strawberry preserves and loves to admire the beautiful flowers God provides her.
