Lauren Olivia Duncan of Church Hill, and Michael Corey Porter of Mount Carmel, plan to be married in an open-church ceremony at 2 p.m., Sept. 18, 2010, at First Baptist Church, Church Hill.The bride-elect is the daughter of Diane Hall and husband Steve Hall of Kingsport, and Michael Duncan and wife Barbara Duncan of Church Hill. She is the granddaughter of the late Clark Christian, Patricia Christian of Church Hill, and J.C. and Ann Duncan of Church Hill. She graduated from Sullivan South High School in 2004 and received an associate's degree from Northeast State Community College in 2008. She is employed as a surgical tech at Dermatology Associates of Kingsport.The bridegroom-to-be is the son of Eddie and Patricia Porter of Mount Carmel, and the grandson of Craft and Viola Adams of Church Hill, and the late John and Jeanette Isenberg. He graduated from Volunteer High School in 2004 and received an associate's degree from Walters State Community College in 2009. He is employed as a registered nurse at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.Olivia and Michael attend Power Point Ministries Church.
Varney and Plunk engagement
Lauren Blair Varney of Kingsport, Tenn., and Jared Dunlap Plunk of Germantown, Tenn., plan to be married at 6:30 p.m., June 26, 2010, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Devoid Wright of Piney Flats, Tenn.The bride-elect is daughter of Doug and Teresa Varney of Kingsport, and the granddaughter of Inez Blair of Gate City, Va., the late Earl Blair, Carolyn Varney of Kingsport and the late Elmer Varney. She graduated from Sullivan South High School in 2004 and received a degree in political science from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 2008. She is pursuing a juris doctorate from the Nashville School of Law and is employed by the Tennessee Department of State.The bridegroom-to-be is the son of Cliff and Linda Plunk of Germantown, and the the grandson of Cliff and Frances Plunk of Memphis, Tenn., and the late Howard and Margaret Woodley. A 2003 graduate of Briarcrest Christian School, he graduated in August 2008 from the University of Memphis with a degree in political science. He is pursuing a juris doctorate from the Nashville School of Law and is employed in the Office of the Governor.Following a honeymoon in Costa Rica, the couple will reside in Nashville.

Gertrude Hood Taylor celebrated her 90th birthday recently with friends and family.Mrs. Taylor was born March 18, 1920, in Wise County, Va. She is the daughter of James A. Hood and Rachel Rhoten Hood. She was married to H.C. Taylor, now deceased, for 32 years.She is the mother of Sharon Carriger of Kingsport, and the grandmother of Steven Carriger of Knoxville, and Stephanie Carriger of Kingsport.
Blevins 50th wedding anniversary
Lewis "Lou" Stuart and Tina Anita (Hayden) Blevins Sr. of Fall Branch, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary May 23, 2010, with a surprise luncheon given in their honor at Farmer's Daughter Restaurant, Chuckey, Tenn.The event was hosted by their children.The couple was married May 22, 1960, at Emmorton Baptist Church, Bel Air, Md.They are the parents of Dr. Lewis S. Blevins Jr. of San Francisco, Calif.; Terry Blevins of Belleville, Ill., and Pandy Elkins of Church Hill. They are the grandparents of Jacob Elkins, Madison Elkins, Emily Blevins and Kimberly Blevins. Mr. Blevins retired from Burleson Construction. Mrs. Blevins is employed at Kingsport City Schools Food and Nutrition Services.
Helton 50th wedding anniversary
William "Bill" and Janice "Jan" (LaForce) Helton of Kingsport, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open reception to be held in their honor from 1 to 3 p.m., June 5, 2010, at Fort Robinson Baptist Church, 2012 Fort Robinson Drive, Kingsport. The event is being hosted by their children and their families.The couple was married June 11, 1960, at the parsonage at Fort Robinson Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tom Crawford officiating.They are the parents of David Helton and wife Teresa of Abingdon, Va., and Debbie Hall and husband Hank of Jonesborough. They are the grandparents of Brian and Tracy Helton, and Zach and Sydney Hall.Mr. Helton owned and operated William Helton Plumbing and Riverside Campground.Mrs. Helton retired from William Helton Plumbing and Riverside Campground.The presence of family and friends is the only gift requested.
