Langstaff 60th wedding anniversary
Witt and Helen Langstaff, longtime residents of Kingsport, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on June 24, 2010, in Isle of Palms, S.C., at a family gathering planned by their five children, Witt Jr., Jamie, George, Sara and Lindy. In addition to their children and their spouses, most of their 15 grandchildren, three with spouses, and two great-grandchildren are expected to attend.Witt and Helen met as counselors in a summer camp in Wisconsin in 1949, and were married in Helen's hometown, River Forrest, Ill., June 24, 1950, following their graduations from Georgia Tech (for Witt) and Duke (for Helen). They came to Kingsport that summer, where Witt worked for Eastman Chemical Co. for 36 years before retiring in 1986.They both want to express their sincere appreciation to the Kingsport community for providing such a favorable environment for raising and educating their children. This is particularly true for the schools and churches, which they and their family attended. They also want to thank their many good friends in Kingsport, and elsewhere for their love and support during the 60 years of their marriage.
Helvey 50th wedding anniversary
Tommy and Margaret (Denton) Helvey of Indian Springs celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 3, 2010, with family and friends.The event was hosted by their three children and spouses at Sunnyside Baptist Church.The couple was married June 3, 1960, at Cassidy United Methodist Church, Indian Springs, with Rev. Robert Carter officiating.They are the parents of Derek Helvey and wife Ruth Ann, Brent Helvey and wife Angie, all of Indian Springs, and Dinah Porter and husband Brandon of Franklin, Tenn.They are the grandparents of Megan and Zachary Helvey, and Delaney, Cassidy, Sadie and Silas Porter.
Blair 50th wedding anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jerry (Yvonne Faulkner) Blair of Kingsport, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, June 11, 2010.The couple was married June 11, 1960, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Lancaster, S.C., with Dr. Smoot Baker officiating.They are the parents of Lisa (Blair) Hawkins and Greg of Cary, N.C.; Jeri (Blair) Kennelly and Jim of Providence, R.I., and Dawn (Blair) Caston and Tony of Kingsport.They are the grandparents of Paul Caston and Brian Caston, both of West Point, N.Y.Mr. Blair retired from Holston Defense Corp. in January 1998. Mrs. Blair was a full-time mother and homemaker. Both continue to be active parents and grandparents.
Kench and McLain engagement
Marybeth Irene Kench of Kingsport, and Jimmy Elmer McLain III of Kingsport, plan to be married in the summer of 2010.The bride-elect is the daughter of Thomas Kench Jr. of Newport, N.Y., and Laura Mason of Kingsport. She is the granddaughter of the late Thomas Sr. and Irmagard Kench, and the late James and Mary Mason. She graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 2002, and in 2007 received a bachelor of science degree in business with a major in public relations and a minor in political science from Ferris State University, where she was a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America, Zeta Tau Alpha and Panhellenic Council. She is employed by the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Public Relations Society of America and KNETIC Young Professionals Organization.The bridegroom-to-be is the son of Vicki McLain of Mount Carmel, and the late Jim McLain Jr. He is the grandson of Verdie Lee Christian of Mount Carmel, the late Bill Christian, the late James Elmer Sr. and Julia Irene McLain, and Opal McLain of Kingsport. He graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1993. He is employed at Kingsport Parks and Recreation and Boehm Landscaping.
Rowlett and Fluce engagement
Samantha Erin Fluce of Kingsport, and Rodney Barton Rowlett III of Kingsport, were married July 18, 2009, at Morrison City Christian Church. Bob Underwood, minister, and the Rev. Charlie Eberhart officiated at the 1 p.m. ceremony.The bride is the daughter of Don and Cindy Fluce of Kingsport, and the granddaughter of Marie Fluce of Kingsport, the late John Mitchell Fluce, Dolphine Lyon of Kingsport, and the late Paul Lyon. The bridegroom is the son of Rodney and Donna Rowlett II of Kingsport, and the grandson of Mrs. Lloyd (Ruby Bellamy) Grimm of Gate City, Va., the late Donnie Lee Bellamy, June Rowlett of Kingsport, and the late Rodney B. Rowlett I.Given in marriage by her parents and escorted to the altar by her father, the bride wore a satin halter A-line gown accented with beaded lace applique and a cut-out lace hem with a chapel-length train.Stephanie Fluce, sister of the bride, of Kingsport, was maid of honor.Lucas Rowlett, brother of the bridegroom, of Kingsport, served as best man. Elliot Fluce, brother of the bride, of Kingsport, was groomsman. Ushers were Jeremy Fluce, cousin of the bride, of Kingsport, and David Weinhold of Kingsport. A reception was held at Allandale Picnic Pavilion.The bride received a bachelor of science degree in psychology from East Tennessee State University, where she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi. She is employed as a registrar specialist at Mercer University, and is a member of Morrison City Christian Church.The bridegroom received a bachelor of science degree in political science from ETSU and attends Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law, Macon, Ga. He is employed as a law clerk at Power, Jaugstetter and Futch, Attorneys at Law, McDonough, Ga. He is a member of Chalybeate Springs United Methodist Church, Scott County, Va.Following a wedding trip to Gatlinburg, Tenn., the couple resides in Macon, Ga.
