Montieze Fogle Potts 99th birthday
Montieze Fogle Potts will celebrate her 99th birthday with a drop-in birthday reception held in her honor from 2 to 4 p.m., July 11, 2010 at the Price Public Community Center, Rogersville.The event it being hosted by her family in celebration of 99 years of life's blessings.Your presence is the only gift requested.Mrs. Potts was born July 12, 1911 in Livingston, S.C., to Tillie and Ermania Fogle. She is the sole survivor of 10 children. She is the widow of the Rev. C.N. Potts who preceded her in death in April 1966. Montieze and her first husband, Edward Kirkland, had two sons, Edward Kirkland Jr. (wife, Phyllis) and the late Robert E. Kirkland (wife, Sue).Montieze and the Rev. Potts had one daughter, Joyce Potts who resides in Rogersville with "Mom."Montieze has four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. When her health allows, Montieze attends Rogersville First United Methodist Church, supervises the making of strawberry preserves and loves to admire the beautiful flowers God provides her.
Walter Carmack 97th birthday
Walter Carmack is looking forward to celebrating his 97th birthday with his children and niece sponsoring a week in the lodge at Hungry Mother State Park.This week is given in appreciation for all the weeks he took the family and extended family camping as they grew up. Odra Busic 99th birthday
Ms. Odra Busic celebrated her 99th birthday on July 3, 2010, with a special birthday luncheon held in her honor at Nottingham United Methodist Church, Gate City, Va., where she regularly attends.Ms. Busic was born July 5, 1911, in Appalachia, Va., and then moved to this area as a young girl. She was married for 47 years to Rufus Busic, now deceased, and was blessed with two daughters, the late Texas, and Florence Griffith. She has give grandchildren and three great-grandchildren as well as a special nephew, Tony.She now resides in the Sullivan Gardens area of Sullivan County.
Davis and Mears engagement
Mr. and Mrs. Tim and Jane Davis, of Columbia, S.C., are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Kimberly "Kimmie" Lynn Davis, of Columbia, to Mark Steven Mears, II of Big Stone Gap, Va., and later of Kingsport, Tenn. He is the son of Mark Mears of Kingsport and the late Holli Mears, and the stepson of Deone Mears, of Kingsport.Kimberly is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent H. Dutton Jr. of Callaway, Md., and the late Rev. and Mrs. Samuel Davis, formerly of East Hampton, N.Y. A graduate of Winthrop University with a bachelor of science degree in biology, she is employed by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.Mark is the grandson of Mrs. Dorothy Mears of Jonesborough, the late Mr. James F. Mears, formerly of Jonesborough, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Euell E. Gardner, formerly of Big Stone Gap, Va. He serves as an active duty staff sergeant with the United States Air Force and is stationed at Shaw AFB in Sumter, S.C., where he is a member of the 20th Civil Engineer Squadron.The wedding is planned for Sept. 18, 2010, at the Millstone at Adam's Pond in Columbia, S.C.
Knapp and Short engagement
Emily Marie Knapp of Kingsport, and Ross Andrew Short of Kingsport, plan to be married in an open-church ceremony at 1 p.m., July 17, 2010, at Bloomingdale Baptist Church.The bride-elect is the daughter of Edith and Richard Knapp of Kingsport, and the granddaughter of Mary and Ray Knapp of Kingsport, Bea Harvey of Kingsport, and the late Emory "Bud" Harvey. She graduated from Sullivan North High School in 2006, where she was a member of the cheerleading squad, tennis team and homecoming queen. She also graduated from Tallahassee Community College in 2010. The bridegroom-to-be is the son of Barbara and Sonny Short of Kingsport, and the grandson of Carl Hustig of Kingsport, the late Jeanne Hustig, and the late Maggie Short. He graduated from Sullivan South High School in 2006. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps and has served one tour of duty in Iraq this past year.
