Davis and Mears engagement
Mr. and Mrs. Tim and Jane Davis, of Columbia, S.C., are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Kimberly "Kimmie" Lynn Davis, of Columbia, to Mark Steven Mears, II of Big Stone Gap, Va., and later of Kingsport, Tenn. He is the son of Mark Mears of Kingsport and the late Holli Mears, and the stepson of Deone Mears, of Kingsport.Kimberly is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent H. Dutton Jr. of Callaway, Md., and the late Rev. and Mrs. Samuel Davis, formerly of East Hampton, N.Y. A graduate of Winthrop University with a bachelor of science degree in biology, she is employed by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.Mark is the grandson of Mrs. Dorothy Mears of Jonesborough, the late Mr. James F. Mears, formerly of Jonesborough, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Euell E. Gardner, formerly of Big Stone Gap, Va. He serves as an active duty staff sergeant with the United States Air Force and is stationed at Shaw AFB in Sumter, S.C., where he is a member of the 20th Civil Engineer Squadron.The wedding is planned for Sept. 18, 2010, at the Millstone at Adam's Pond in Columbia, S.C.
Knapp and Short engagement
Emily Marie Knapp of Kingsport, and Ross Andrew Short of Kingsport, plan to be married in an open-church ceremony at 1 p.m., July 17, 2010, at Bloomingdale Baptist Church.The bride-elect is the daughter of Edith and Richard Knapp of Kingsport, and the granddaughter of Mary and Ray Knapp of Kingsport, Bea Harvey of Kingsport, and the late Emory "Bud" Harvey. She graduated from Sullivan North High School in 2006, where she was a member of the cheerleading squad, tennis team and homecoming queen. She also graduated from Tallahassee Community College in 2010. The bridegroom-to-be is the son of Barbara and Sonny Short of Kingsport, and the grandson of Carl Hustig of Kingsport, the late Jeanne Hustig, and the late Maggie Short. He graduated from Sullivan South High School in 2006. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps and has served one tour of duty in Iraq this past year.
Jeter and Shelton marriage
Callie Susane Shelton of Kingsport, and Jeffrey Nielson Jeter of Kingsport, were married May 29, 2010, at Pleasant View Baptist Church. The Rev. Wayne Baker officiated at the 5 p.m. ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Alvin and Charlene Shelton of Kingsport, and the granddaughter of Franklin Johnson of Kingsport, the late Charlsie Mae Johnson, and the late Hubert and Dorothy Shelton. The bridegroom is the son of Michael and Suzanne Jeter of Kingsport, and the grandson of Anita Ferrell of Kingsport, the late Roy Ferrell, and George and Iva Jeter of Kingsport.
Given in marriage by her parents and escorted to the altar by her father, the bride wore an ivory-colored Dupioni silk gown with a cathedral-length train and a bodice of Alcon lace. She wore a fingertip-length veil edged with Alcon lace and wore her grandmother's antique brooch on the waist band bow.
Elizabeth Gamble, best friend of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Ashleigh Clark, April Davis, Ashley Jeter, Ashlee Johnson, Meredith Rodefer and Christine Rodefer. Raleigh Shelton was junior bridesmaid. Delaney Shelton was flower girl.
Michael Jeter, brother of the bridegroom served as best man. Groomsmen and ushers were Benjamin Barker, Parker Golden, Samuel Oliver, Jacob Rodefer, Chad Shelton, brother of the bride, and Toby Shelton, brother of the bride. Ring bearers were Carter Shelton and Cole Shelton.
A reception was held at Ridgefields Country Club.
The bride graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School and Northeast State Community College. She will continue her education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, this fall.
The bridegroom graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School and received a degree in logistics and transportation from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He is employed at Knight Transportation, Charlotte, N.C.
Following a wedding trip to Charleston, S.C., the couple resides in Charlotte.
Yates and Stapleton marriage
Mary Brittany Stapleton of Kingsport, and Sgt. Jonathan Clovis Yates of Kingsport, were married June 26, 2009, at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas. A ceremony for the reaffirmation of the wedding vows was performed on May 1, 2010, in the chapel of First Baptist Church. Dr. Marvin Cameron officiating at the 6 p.m. ceremony.The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rick L. (Jan) Stapleton of Kingsport, and the granddaughter of Mrs. Mary Rose Stapleton, the late William Stapleton, and the late Mr. and Mrs. James Emmitt Perry. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clovis Allen (Tammy) Yates of Kingsport, and the grandson of Mr. Clovis Yates, the late Maudie Yates, Mrs. Ann Bellamy and the late Jimmy Lee Bellamy.Given in marriage by her parents and escorted to the altar by her father, the bride wore a gown of Dupioni silk with a sweetheart neckline. The skirt of the gown flowed into a circular chapel-length train adorned with pearls and beads. The bride carried a bouquet of white roses.Courtney Carroll, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Jessica Wiltshire, friend of the bride, was bridesmaid. Blaklee Emerson Carroll, niece of the bride, was flower girl.Clovis Allen Yates, father of the bridegroom, served as best man. Joshua Allen Yates, brother of the bridegroom, was groomsman. William Kyrin Maxwell, nephew of the bride, was junior groomsman. Brayden Allen Yates, nephew of the bridegroom, was ring bearer. Ushers were Stanley Pierce, friend of the bride, and Issac Allman, friend of the bridegroom. A reception was held at Ridgefields Country Club following the ceremony.The bride graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 2002, and attended Northeast State Community College.The bridegroom graduated from Sullivan North High School in 2004, and is serving as a recruiter in the U.S. Army.The couple resides in Corbin, Ky.
