Phillips and Ebling engagement announcement
Bill and Rosemary Phillips of Kingsport are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Hillary Anne Phillips to Michael David Ebling, son of Paula Ebling of Gainesville, Fla., and the late David Ebling, formerly of Gainesville, Fla.The bride-elect graduated with honors from Sullivan South High School in 2007, where she was president of the band and a Student Council officer. She is a senior at East Tennessee State University, where she is pursuing a biology major and a German minor. She is an active member in the American Medical Student Association and in President's Pride. She is the granddaughter of Harold Alspaugh of Magnolia, Ark.; the late Joyce Alspaugh, formerly of Magnolia, Ark.; and the late Ken and Virginia Phillips, both formerly of Kingsport.The bridegroom-to-be graduated from Gainesville High School, Gainesville, Fla., in 2006, where he was a National Merit Commended Scholar. He graduated summa cum laude from Sewanee University in May 2010, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He is earning a master of arts degree in teaching at Peabody College of Vanderbilt University, Nashville. He is the grandson of Paul Ebling of Gainesville, Fla.; the late Pauline Ebling, formerly of Gainesville; and the late Walter and Jane Whidden, both formerly of Gainesville.The couple plans to be married in a May 2011 garden ceremony in the Great Smoky Mountains.
McMurray and Ricketts wedding announcement
Laura Beth McMurray of Kingsport, and Larry Wayne Ricketts Jr. of Gate City, Va., plan to be married in an open-church ceremony at 3 p.m., Dec. 4, 2010, at Homeland Baptist Church.The bride-elect is the daughter of Jack and Judy McMurray of Kingsport, and the granddaughter of the late Bascom and Bonnie Calhoun, formerly of Gate City.The bridegroom-to-be is the son of Barbara McConnell and stepson of Ron McConnell of Arkadelphia, Ark. He is the grandson of Eliza Garland of Gate City, and the late Guy Garland Sr., formerly of Gate City.
Haynes 60th wedding anniversary
Glenn and Gladys (Gray) Haynes of Kingsport, formerly of Scott County, Va., will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a reception to be held in their honor from 2 to 4 p.m., Nov. 14, 2010, at Christ Fellowship Church, 260 Victory Lane, Kingsport.The couple was married Nov. 18, 1950, in Weber City, Va., with the Rev. Herman Quillen officiating.They are the parents of Deborah Winegar of Church Hill; Darla Cline of Sparta, Tenn.; David Haynes of Kingsport; and Donna Jones of Kingsport.They have five grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.Mr. Haynes retired from Mead Corp. after 43 years of service. Mrs. Haynes is a homemaker.They invite all their family and friends to attend. Your presence is the only gift requested.
Anderson 68th wedding anniversary
Robert J.B. Anderson and Susan Elizabeth Collins were married on Columbus Day, Oct. 12, 1942, and they joyously celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary at ages 88 and 86, respectively, in their home Oct. 12, 2010.Their twin 10-year-old granddaughters, Myla and Mattea Anderson, wanted to celebrate in "the days gone by" style. It was a wonderful opportunity for the couple to be nostalgic.The bride wore a long, flowing off-white gown and a wide-brimmed hat that belonged to her husband's maternal grandmother, Augusta, who died in 1929. She crocheted her red, white and blue apron for the event. The bridegroom matched in tuxedo style with bowtie and hat. The family joined in the celebration wearing bonnets and hats and dress attire fitting the occasion. That theme carried through to a sit-down dinner for the couple and special friends, Thelma and Bernie Benkey. Myla and Mattea served them.Cameras and video rolled capturing the cutting of their anniversary cake and warm wishes to the happy couple. They spoke of the memories and how the Lord had blessed them even through hardships. The entire event was one of reflection and thankfulness of God and for their families and many friends. They are especially thankful for and blessed with four children, four grandchildren and one great-grandson. They are the parents of Linda and Charles Rothwell, Carolyn Sakowicz, Norma Cato, and Bobby and Nancy Anderson . They are the grandparents of Stephanie Sakowicz, Leigh Sakowicz Basham and husband Joseph Basham, Myla Anderson and Mattea Anderson. They are the great-grandparents of Bryson Basham.
Carter 50th wedding anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. James L. Carter (Jim and Charlotte) recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner and short Caribbean cruise to Nassau, along with some of the children and grandchildren.The couple was married June 4, 1960, and are the proud parents of five children, Margaret Beeler, whose husband was the late Anthony Beeler; Elizabeth Sherrard and her husband Dr. Rick Sherrard; Cathy Osborne and her husband Jack Osborne; J. Lawrence Carter Jr. and his wife Tisha, and John Carter and his wife Rachel. The are the proud grandparents of six grandchildren Erin Clark and her husband Jeremiah, Laura Beeler, Josh Osborne, and Jessica, Anna and Nora Carter.Jim is now retired from Eastman Kodak Co. after 33 years of service. He enjoys pickin' bluegrass music and currently performs with Shorthills Ramblers, which he formed, Southern Country Band and Just Friends band.Charlotte is a homemaker and Jim says "a great cook." She worked at Holston Valley Community Hospital as a ward clerk. She thoroughly enjoys reading and doing crossword puzzles.
